Matt, a great post and it is good to see we are starting to talk more about this in the UK. It has to be said that HR pros in the US are the driving force in the HR blogosphere.

Back in the UK, I think there is understandable nervousness from HR departments about how to use the social web to increase HR and wider organisational effectiveness. This is new stuff, it comes with risks etc

This is no excuse, however, to not explore how networking tools can benefit the organisation. Yammer is interesting in that it is a more secure platform for the enterprise.

We use it and it has been very interesting to see how information is being shared across the company. This has not been driven by the HR team, however.

I hope more HR professionals look at how to use these tools to increase organisational effectiveness. It seems to be a great opportunity to experiment with free tools and make some impact.
